Summary
Muzej uja (Olive Oil Museum) is a family-run visitor venue in a restored old olive mill in Škrip. It presents traditional olive processing and offers paid visits and tastings, as well as food, drinks and local products.
The Krstulović family’s olive mill operated until 1963; the Cukrov family restored it and opened it to visitors in 2013.
A family olive mill dating from 1864
According to the history published by the family, Josip Krstulović founded the olive mill in 1864. In the early 20th century, Kruno and Mandica Krstulović upgraded its equipment with a Thomas Holt press from Trieste. Processing continued until 1963, when newer technology replaced the old method.
In 2013, Kruno Cukrov and his family restored the mill and opened it to visitors in July. The historic equipment now forms part of an interpretation of olive growing and oil production.
Equipment and the production process
The display presents the mill, press, water-heating equipment and tools for transporting, processing and storing olives and oil. Together, they offer insight into work that preceded modern production facilities.
The display also includes paintings by Hana-Marta Jurčević Bulić and sculptures by Đani Martinić depicting workers in the olive mill. Muzej uja is separate from Muzej otoka Brača (Museum of the Island of Brač) in the nearby Radojković Tower.
What’s offered today and visiting
The venue is run by the Cukrov family, who also produce their own olive oil. A visit combines a tour with tastings; food and wine menus, local products and souvenirs are also offered.
The address is Put ploča 5 in Škrip. Regular visits are subject to a fee; check dates, prices and visiting arrangements with the hosts before you arrive.
