Summary
The Parish Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mirca, also known as Gospa Miraška (Our Lady of Mirca), developed from an earlier chapel built in 1579. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the present complex acquired its distinctive form and bell tower.
Public sources describe some building phases differently: the Croatian Encyclopaedia gives the year 1733 and dates the bell tower to 1858, while a local overview associates the construction or shaping of the present parish church with 1858.
History and purpose
The Parish Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the central church of Mirca. A local historical overview says that an earlier chapel, built by the Bertičević and Brković families in 1579, was dedicated to the Visitation and is popularly known as Gospa Miraška (Our Lady of Mirca). Mirca was first a chaplaincy and became an independent parish in 1825.
