Summary
The Parish Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dol was built between 1866 and 1886 on the site of an earlier church in ruins. It houses a large Baroque crucifix known as Dolski Isukrst (Christ of Dol).
The church was designed by Karl Beckmann; its bell tower is preserved from the earlier church, and the parish feast of Candlemas is locally called Kandelora.

History and purpose
The present Parish Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dol was built after an earlier church in poor condition was demolished. Construction began in 1866, and the church was completed in 1886. The parish celebrates Candlemas as its principal feast, under the local name Kandelora.
Structure and traces of the past
The church was designed by Karl Beckmann, and its bell tower is preserved from the earlier building. The single-nave interior follows the Classical tradition and is decorated with blue and brown faux-marble painting. A large Baroque crucifix known as Dolski Isukrst (Christ of Dol) is a notable feature, along with four altars: the main altar, an altar to the Blessed Virgin Mary, one to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and one to the Great Cross.
Access and visiting
