History and purpose
The Parish Church of the Annunciation stands in a prominent position in Supetar, above the Early Christian Basilica of St Peter. A surviving section of geometric mosaic in the north aisle bears witness to an earlier sacred layer at this site.
Structure and traces of the past
The present, simple three-aisled façade was completed in the late 19th century and incorporates parts of a sculpture by Ivan Vitaljić from the early 18th century. Stone piers divide the interior; the ceiling is flat and decorated with Neoclassical stucco, and a four-storey stone bell tower was built beside the church in 1861.
Access and visiting
The church is in central Supetar and remains an active parish church. Check whether the interior can be visited outside service times.
