History and purpose
The Parish Church of St Helena of the Cross (sv. Jelena Križarica) stands on a small square beside the Cerinić residence in Škrip. The older church was demolished because it had fallen into disrepair in 1767, and the present single-nave Baroque church was completed in 1816. St Helena of the Cross became a co-patron saint of the church in 1823, alongside its existing dedication to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Structure and traces of the past
The church has an elongated quadrangular apse, a façade with a curving gable and a niche with a stone canopy and a statue of the Madonna above the monumental portal. Shallow pilasters with altar niches and wooden Late Renaissance altars articulate the interior. Four altarpieces by the Venetian painter Jacopo Palma the Younger were transferred here from the earlier church.
Access and visiting
The church is in the historic centre of Škrip and serves the parish community. Check the parish's current schedule before visiting the interior.
