History and context
Kolač, also known as Koloč, is about two kilometres from Nerežišća. It was protected as a geomorphological natural monument in 1986. The name is associated with the ring-like shape of the rock.
What the site reveals
The rock is approximately 11–12 metres high and consists of limestone and dolomite. Two natural arches formed through the erosion caused by water, wind and temperature changes, with the influence of plant roots. The natural opening is about ten metres wide; descriptions differ slightly in their measurements.
Location and visiting
The site is southwest of Nerežišća in open countryside. The published coordinates mark the rock itself, not a car park or public path. Plan access along existing routes and respect the surrounding land. Climbing and damaging the protected rock are prohibited.
