Development of the tourist complex
A 2004 feature in Nacional describes the development of Kaštil Jela as a private tourism investment dating from the early 1980s. Its stone construction and Dalmatian-style design give it the appearance of a small, secluded complex, but it was built for modern tourism.
Name and architecture
The word kaštil may refer to the building’s form or impression, but it does not prove that it had an old defensive purpose. Kaštil Jela should therefore be distinguished from Brač’s historic fortified family houses and residences.
Access
The complex is private property. Check its present-day use, whether visits are possible and access arrangements with the owner or manager; an old feature does not confirm that the business still operates today.
