Summary
The hiking hut beside the historic dwellings of Gažul was built through the work of hikers and mountain rescuers from Brač. Its role is connected with gatherings, training, rescue equipment and stays in the island’s interior.
The hiking hut and the old shepherds’ dwellings are two separate complexes.
Joint work by hikers and rescuers
Hrvatski planinar reported the hut’s opening on 12 July 2015 in its 2016 issue. Its development brought together members of the Profunda hiking club and HGSS, with funding from the mountain rescue service. It began as a metal container converted into a hut with an attic, water tank and solar power.

Uses beyond recreational visits
The hut was equipped to store gear, host duty shifts and training, and bring together rescuers from Brač. It also serves the hiking community. These functions show why a building like this matters for everyday safety and cooperation on the island.

Relationship with the historic dwellings
The historic shepherd settlement of Gažul is an older stone complex nearby. The hiking hut is not part of the original group of 19th-century dwellings. The pin marks the separate named building outline; check with the operator before arriving about permitted use and stays.
