Summary
A system of basins and stone reservoirs for collecting water near Ložišća bears witness to the shared organisation of livestock raising and agriculture.
Water here was a deliberately managed shared resource, not simply a natural pool.
Water collection site
Donji pisk consists of water collection areas, access ramps and stone-lined basins with stone reservoirs. The system was built in the early 19th century and used to water livestock. On the dry terrain of Brač, such infrastructure was an important part of the village economy.
Technical and cultural value
The design brings together knowledge of the terrain, stone construction and the needs of animal husbandry. The Cultural Heritage Register lists Donji pisk under reference Z-1873. It should not be confused with Gornji pisk, a separate water site.
Location and visit
A list of water habitats gives the coordinates for D. Pisk as 43°20′52,2″ N and 16°29′09,6″ E. The pin helps orient visitors to the system; it does not confirm access to every basin. During a visit, do not enter the reservoirs or disturb the water, animals or stone walls.
