Summary
A poet and university professor born in Selca, known for humorous poetry in the Chakavian dialect of Brač. His verses turn everyday island life into a distinctive literary world.
‘Snig na Braču’ (‘Snow on Brač’) and ‘Vrime od škoja’ (‘Island Time’) are among his collections of poetry rooted in his homeland.
His roots in Selca and academic work
Jakšić was born in Selca. He studied Yugoslav studies in Belgrade and earned his doctorate in Zadar, where he taught literature. His professional life away from the island did not break his connection with the language of his homeland: the Chakavian dialect of Brač remained his main poetic expression.

Humour, rhythm and the island
The collections ‘Zavitri i spjaže’, ‘Snig na Braču’, ‘Vrime od škoja’ and ‘Pivac na humaru’ are marked by immediacy, humour and a rhythm close to live storytelling. With Joško Žuljević, he translated Yesenin into Chakavian in the book ‘Jesenjin po brašku i po brošku’, showing that the island dialect can also convey another literary tradition.

An encounter with Štambuk’s poetry gathering
His poems were included in ‘Maslinov vijenac’ (‘Olive Wreath’), a selection edited by Drago Štambuk alongside the Selca poetry gathering ‘Croatia rediviva’. The library record confirms the shared book and editorial connection; by itself, it does not establish a private friendship between the authors.
