Summary
A humanist and writer from Pučišća, author of the ‘Kronika otoka Brača’ (‘Chronicle of the Island of Brač’), a work recounting the island’s past up to 1420. His manuscript connects local historiography, the interests of Brač’s nobility and later efforts to preserve historical sources.
The chronicle survives in copies, and Ciccarelli and Jutronić continued its publication and study.
Pučišća and the Prodić family
Vicko was born and died in Pučišća. He belonged to a noble family that left its mark on the development of the town, church life and the island’s written culture. Recent research on family documents places him within the wider Prodić genealogy, while clearly distinguishing between people who shared the same name.
The chronicle and the perspective of Brač’s nobility
He probably completed the ‘Kronika otoka Brača’ in 1662. It covers the period from the earliest past to 1420 and is dedicated to Šimun Cerineo, archpriest of Brač. The work was also shaped by social conflict: its author defended the rights of the nobility against the demands of commoners. For this reason, the chronicle should be understood in the context of its creation.

From manuscript to researchers
The chronicle survives in several copies. Andrija Ciccarelli included it in his 1802 book on Brač, and Andre Jutronić studied and partially published it in 1955. A complete Croatian translation appeared in 1977 in the collection ‘Legende i kronike’ (‘Legends and Chronicles’). Their work shows how island history survived through copies, libraries and new scholarly editions.
