Summary
A painter who lived in Supetar from 1928 and developed much of his Expressionist work there. The landscapes of Brač, olive trees, houses and scenes of everyday life became vehicles for his vivid colour.
Supetar was a place of intense artistic activity for him, although he was not born on Brač.

Arrival in Supetar
Job was born in Dubrovnik. After his studies and periods in Italy, Serbia and Dalmatia, he settled in Supetar in 1928. Much of his work, including some of its most important pieces, was created there in the following years. The town became his real home and artistic environment.

Brač in colour
Olive trees, houses and scenes of a coastal town are rendered with lively brushwork and emphatic colour. His works include ‘Moj dom u Supetru’ (‘My Home in Supetar’), ‘Pejzaž s Brača’ (‘Landscape of Brač’), ‘Lovački piknik’ (‘Hunting Picnic’) and ‘Kameni stol’ (‘Stone Table’). During this period, he moved away from the quieter compositions of his earlier work and developed a style described as spontaneous Expressionism.

A portrait of Dešković and the collection in Bol
Branislav Dešković was among Job’s contemporary portrait subjects. Works by both artists are held at the Galerija umjetnina Branislav Dešković (Branislav Dešković Art Gallery) in Bol, including several important paintings by Job. The portrait is a concrete artistic connection between the two, while the collection makes it possible to view their work side by side.
