The VODA sculpture in Trstena Cove near Postira was installed to commemorate the start of construction of the water supply system for the central Dalmatian islands. It connects public sculpture with an important chapter in the islands' infrastructure.
Reason for its installation
In July 2017, HRT announced the opening of the VODA sculpture in Trstena, commemorating the water supply system works that began in 1970. Vodovod Brač, Hvarski vodovod and Vodovod i kanalizacija Split were named as the organisations behind its installation.
Remembering the islands' water supply
The monument is dedicated to a joint infrastructure project that served several central Dalmatian islands. Its significance should be distinguished from that of individual old island wells, rainwater cisterns and ponds, which belong to older and different ways of obtaining water.
Location and visiting
A Maps marker places the monument beside the shore of Trstena Cove, east of Postira. Check the approach and the sculpture's precise location before arriving. The marker does not designate a public car park or permission to cross neighbouring properties.
