Summary
Obršje is a historic rural settlement in the southern interior of Brač. Its shepherding origins, wartime destruction and school connections with the Blaca Hermitage are important parts of its story.
Children from Obršje went to school in Blaca.
Shepherds’ dwellings and residents
Obršje developed as a shepherds’ settlement linked to families from Nerežišća. Andre Jutronić recorded its family history through field interviews in the 1930s. Information from that period should be distinguished from the settlement’s present-day condition.
The school route to Blaca
Pustinja Blaca (Blaca Hermitage) also served as an education centre for children from Obršje, Smrka and Dragovode. A specialist heritage account records their daily journeys to the monastery school. This connection reveals the role of Blaca in the lives of families beyond the monastery itself.

Destruction and preservation of the settlement
Jutronić records the burning of Obršje in 1944 and the displacement of its residents. The present layout of the old houses is an important trace of life in the past. The mapped boundary of the hamlet is for orientation; it does not confirm that ruins are safe or that any particular house may be entered.
