Herljević’s gift to Pučišća
Art historian Vanja Kovačić records that the sculpture was installed on Aquila Bridge in late August 2020. The work was created before 2010 and belongs to the artist’s cycle of female nudes in stone.
Herljević spent summers creating work at his family property in Pučišća, where the garden also served as an open-air studio. The sculptor’s gift reflects this long connection between the artist and the village.
The figure and its change of location
The woman’s figure is shaped in soft, connected contours. The position of her head and body gives it a calm, upward movement; the stone and light are important to the impression of its surface.
A 2022 municipal decision provided for the bronze composition Novi život (New Life) to be placed on Aquila Bridge and Na suncu on a prominent part of Veli most. These are two different works by the same artist; do not confuse the stone female figure with the bronze group.
Access and visiting
