A girl before her first swim
According to sculptor Robert Jozić, the motif connects a young girl with the feelings of her first swim. The rounded, taut form is deliberately simplified, and the small figure is placed right beside the sea.
The first model was made at a sculpture colony in Bol in 2010. The sculpture became a recognisable feature of Benačica, but its history includes serious damage and replacement.
Damage and new versions
Local reports document the sculpture being remade and installed again in 2018 on a neighbouring, different bridge. The new figure is not a cast of the old one but a new stone version made from the earlier model, so its details may not be exactly the same.
Later reports record further damage. The artist’s professional biography lists Mala Mare in Bol under 2022 as well. Because of these changes, photographs from different years may show different states of the work.
Access and visiting
The marker refers to the small coastal bridge at Benačica, not to a museum or enclosed gallery. Its present condition may differ from older photographs. When viewing it, stay off wet edges of the bridge and do not climb on the sculpture.
