A gift from Vesna Ristovski
An interview published in 2011 says the artist donated Kraljica to Bol the previous year. The sculpture, made from Brač stone, is 2.40 metres tall. Dražen Matijašić is named as the principal stone carver.
Ristovski connected part of her work with Bol and its sculpture colonies. Kraljica is an independent work by the artist, not a general name for every sculpture made at those colonies.
Form and material
The sculpture consists of an upright stone form with an indicated head and simplified features of a figure. A rounded base and geometrically shaped upper section give it a calm, upright character.
The photograph shows the work on a separate base amid greenery beside Bol’s promenade. Its title helps guide the interpretation of the figure, but does not identify a particular historical queen as the subject.
Access and visiting
View the work from outside, along the footpath connecting Bol and Zlatni rat. The pedestal and stone edges are not intended for sitting or climbing.
