A sculpture on the waterfront
The Municipality of Sutivan announced the sculpture’s installation in May 2020. The girl points out the familiar cat in the bell tower to her own cat, linking two places in the landscape and directing visitors to local folklore. It was later given the name Stivanka.
The story of the cat in the bell tower
The cat in the bell tower features in stories from Sutivan and in the teasing that once went on between island communities. There are several versions of how the taunting tale began. The sculpture on the waterfront does not confirm any one story as a historical event; instead, it turns the tale into a public symbol of the place.
Location and visiting
When it was installed, a temporary location was announced while the small bridge beside the historic tower was being renovated. So, when you arrive, take the current situation on the waterfront as your guide. Treat the work as a public sculpture; do not climb on it or damage its surface.
