History and purpose
The Church of St Nedjelja is on the western side of Gradac hill, beneath a prehistoric hillfort above Selca. The official description by the Municipality of Selca identifies it as a pre-Romanesque church and records its mention in the Povlja Charter.
Structure and traces of the past
The single-nave building has a semicircular apse, is built of roughly dressed stone and is covered with stone slabs. It has a barrel vault without transverse arches, blind arcades articulate the side walls, and a bell gable rises on the façade. The sanctuary contains an 18th-century painting on slate of the Madonna and Child with saints. An enclosed medieval cemetery surrounds the church.
Access and visiting
The site is outside the settlement, and access should not be assumed from the map alone. Check the route and conditions before setting out, and show particular respect for the cemetery complex.
