Historic maritime navigation
The lighthouse is part of a system that made it safer to identify entrances to island harbours. According to the operator’s register, it was built in 1882 on the cape by the entrance to Pučišća Bay.
The construction date refers to the lighthouse, not to all the older religious or other buildings nearby. The separate Church of St Nicholas has its own record and history.
Tower, light and location
Plovput records a tower height of 11 metres, a light elevation of 20 metres above the sea and a site without a permanent keeper. These features distinguish the structure from small harbour lights on low posts.
Its position at the mouth of the bay is also important to the view of the settlement from the sea. Current navigational information may change and should be checked against official nautical records before sailing.
Access and visiting
Seeing the lighthouse from outside does not mean you may enter the tower or the maritime signalling work area. Check land access and any possibility of visiting with the operator; do not cross fences.
