Big Bang is a stone composition of three spherical forms on separate upright pedestals beside Bol’s promenade. The distinctive feature of the work is the different finish of each sphere.

Three different surfaces
A photograph of the composition shows three stone spheres mounted on columns of unequal height. One is broken into irregular planes, another is worked into concentric rings, and the third has a more uniform rough surface.
The differences between the forms become visible as you walk along the path. The composition retains simple geometric outlines but develops them through the rhythm of the surfaces and the relationships between heights.
Title and location
The title Big Bang accompanies a composition that contrasts a whole sphere, a broken one and a ring-patterned form. The different textures change how the same basic geometric motif is experienced.
The work is set among greenery beside the coastal footpath. Separate pedestals allow the spheres to be viewed as a group and individually, in relation to the trees and surrounding space.
Access and visiting
View the sculpture from the existing promenade. The spheres and their pedestals are not play equipment; in particular, avoid holding onto broken or projecting stone parts.
