A bishop and hagiographic stories
Nicholas is associated with Myra in Asia Minor. His life is surrounded by stories of helping the poor and rescuing people in danger, and his relics were transferred to Bari. In art, he is depicted in bishop’s vestments, often with motifs from these stories.

The church between Selca and Sumartin
The Church of St Nicholas on a rise between the two settlements is part of Brač’s pre-Romanesque heritage. Its distinctive feature is a dome over the central area. The dedication to the saint outlasted changes in the surrounding settlement and the later foundation of Sumartin.
The parish in Gornji Humac
The parish Church of St Nicholas in Gornji Humac is another important example on the island. The same saint thus connects different communities and architectural ensembles, but their dating and history are not a shared biography of a single building. The feast of Saint Nicholas is celebrated on 6 December.
